Dulwich College Shanghai

Dulwich College Shanghai is an all-through international school.  It received its 4Cs School award in March 2018.

The Dulwich College Leadership Team identified P4C as an approach that would support our aims to develop students who are globally minded, independent, critically thinking and contributing members of society.  To this end, the College Leadership Team identified P4C as an approach that would support our aims.  “Students come first’ has been a tenet by which the College has developed by since it opened and remains at the heart of all that we do.  We believe that P4C is a ‘student-centred’ approach.  As our pupils in IB participate in Theory of Knowledge (TOK); for example, in March, the Senior School Students were exploring Ethics and Morality and asking the question, ‘from where do we learn and construct our moral compass?’, we felt that the skills involved in P4C would segue neatly and prepare our students to grapple with the ‘big’ ideas addressed in the IB as well as prepare them for all future learning.

P4C is an approach used in DUCKS (2 – 7 year olds), Junior School (8-12 years) and in Senior School (12 – 18 years) with the aims of becoming regular practice throughout the College.  There are 3 designated P4C Champions, one in each school to help guide, steer and support P4C in each part of the College.   P4C is also used in Senior School via departments e.g.  P4C became the main approach in the course of Chinese Culture and History in KS3. Concepts such as love, death, ethics, hero, law, ethics, leadership, obedience, family, respect, etc. have been explored.
